SPM heating mats under tiles – only 2 mm thick
SPM heating mats are just 2 mm thick and fit entirely within the layer of tile adhesive. They do not raise the floor level, which makes them ideal for bathroom renovations, finishing flats sold in developer standard and timber floors.
Just 2 mm. The thinnest heating mats in the world.
SPM heating mats do not raise the floor level because they fit entirely within even the thinnest layer of tile adhesive. When renovating a bathroom or finishing a new flat, the tiler has to keep the heated floor from ending up higher than the hallway floor, so they look for the thinnest heating mat on the market.
The difference may seem small, but in practice a thicker mat makes installation much harder or even impossible, especially on an uneven floor, and often forces the owner to give up on a warm floor. Warmup understood this problem well, which is why it offers a heating mat with no equivalent from any competitor.
Where there is plenty of height to spare, embedding the mat in a thinner layer of adhesive still brings real benefits: much shorter warm-up times, which mean lower energy use, and less tile adhesive, which lowers the installation cost.
Check the approximate costWhat SPM mats are
An SPM mat is a ready-made heating element with a cable in double ETFE insulation. The output is 150 W/m², and the mats are available in sizes from 1 to 15 m². The mat is laid directly in the tile adhesive under tiles or stone, or in a thin layer of self-levelling compound.
Thanks to the raw materials used in their production and patented technology, Warmup SPM heating mats have no technical equivalent on the market. A thin layer of adhesive also means a shorter floor heat-up time.
When to choose SPM mats
- Bathroom renovation, when the floor level cannot end up higher than in the hallway.
- Finishing a flat or house sold in developer standard, on an existing screed.
- An insulated foundation slab without screed.
- Timber floors covered with OSB board.
When the floor is to be laminate or engineered wood boards laid dry, WLFH heating film is the right choice. When building a house with a screed on insulation, WIS heating cables will do the job.
Preparing the subfloor
The durability of the whole floor depends on how the subfloor is prepared. Before installation, the following is on your side:
- removing dust and priming the floor twice with a liquid bonding primer,
- levelling out all unevenness, dips and steps with repair mortar or a self-levelling screed,
- preparing the electrical installation: a back box for the thermostat, a 230 V supply with 3×2.5 mm² cable, 2 conduits of 20–22 mm diameter to the floor and protection (B16 and a common 30 mA RCD, type B).
Ultralight boards: an option worth considering
If you can raise the floor level by a few millimetres, Warmup Ultralight insulation boards can be laid under the mat. They reduce heat loss down into the floor, lower energy consumption and shorten the heat-up time.
In the manufacturer’s tests, a floor with 150 W/m² heating on an insulated screed reached 27°C after 34 minutes instead of 110 minutes without the board, and energy consumption was up to 12% lower than with ordinary XPS-core boards. In over 80% of installations the boards are not used, because the floor cannot be raised or the cost is an obstacle.
Installation and warranty
The mats are installed by our team, usually in one day, with resistance measurements and an entry in the warranty certificate. You can also order the mats alone, delivered within 48 hours. SPM mats come with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an SPM mat raise the floor level?
Practically not at all. The mat is 2 mm thick and fits entirely within the layer of tile adhesive, which is needed anyway.
Can an SPM mat be laid on OSB board?
Yes. SPM mats work well on timber floors covered with OSB board, after the subfloor has been properly prepared.
What is the output of an SPM mat?
150 W/m². The mats are available in sizes from 1 to 15 m², and we select a mat of the right area for each room.
What is the warranty on SPM mats?
A lifetime manufacturer’s warranty, after registering the warranty with the measurements taken during installation.
